1929- 2004
MARIO MILANI started buying the tools of the trade and in 1929 he became an entrepreneur in the metal-working sector. So in 1930 he asked his friend Giovanni Artuso to help him. By 1934 his business primarily made products for hospitals and sanatoriums. Education and health were the two main sectors for which Milani manufactured products for everyday use, especially cabinets but also stools, chairs, closets, desks, first aid kits, tables, footboards, coat racks and waste paper baskets. Later on, the first machine tools joined pure artisan craftsmanship in the industrious Bassano area. By 1950 the Officine Milani began specializing in industrial products. By 1953 the company had 12 employees, and that number increased to 35 just three years later. Around 1955 Milani began working with Valentino Piccolotto, who later founded Madras, a footwear factory. This relationship would continue for a decade. Milani got down to business and decided to produce metal lockers.
During the early sixties, Milani and Piccolotto got the idea to establish Fru, a company that initially intended to produce radiators. In 1962, a new factory was opened in Rosà, which became the headquarter of Fru S.a.s. Soon the radiator idea, which did not completely convince Milani, was abandoned and "Fabbrica Ripiani Universali" started producing metal containers, behind Piccolotto's advice. Fru was soon joined in 1963 by Fami, the natural heir to Officine Milani, which still did business for a few years after that. The official document marking the establishment of Fami is dated October 20, 1962. The headquarters were still in Ca' Molin. Piccolotto was a partner of Fru, whose production was not much different from that of Fami, while the Milani family bought shares in Piccolotto's company, Stam, which produced automatic trasporters made of metal. Fami grew and moved to the headquarters in Rosà, in a factory shed next door to Fru. Fami and Fru both became S.n.c.'s (General Partnership)...

...Mario Milani's children were partners in Fami. The year 1970 also marked the first contacts with foreign markets (Setam in France), and the company also established relations with Swiss businesses. Product diversification, combined with a great focus on quality and on the specific needs of each client, was a winning tactic. Fami realized that to expand in to the markets, it had to promote its business outside its region and Italy. Trade fairs are ideal promotional instruments because they specifically address professionals in the sector. During the seventies, the range of products grew with plastic boxes and containers, shelving and industrial cabinets. The year 1980 marked a step ahead for Milani's companies. Fami S.p.a. was established and held by Fami S.r.l., Fru Sr.l. and by Mario's children. While consolidating its position on the European market, becoming a leading corporation, Fami also focused on strengthening its position on the Italian market here it organized a widerespread sales network covering whole Italy. Today Fami has 250 employees in Italy and abroad, five branches (in Germany, Switzerland, Poland, Cina and Austria) and authorized dealers in Europe, South East Asia, the Middle East and Latin America. Mario's children, Gianni and Bruno now run the company and are the Managing Directors, while the third generation, Mario's grandchildren, are already entering Fami. The head company has grown and now covers, with its different divisions, a total area of approximately 200.000 square meters, of which 80.000 are covered and used for offices, production activities and warehouse.

to make metal rose and
